Macedonia
is
counting
on
the
French
support
of
its
efforts
to
join
the
European
Union
and
NATO,
Macedonian
Prime
Minister
Branko
Crvenkovski
told
the
France
Press,
one
day
prior
to
his
visit
to
France.
He
reiterated
Macedonia's
intention
to
apply
for
the
EU
membership
by
the
end
of
February
and
expressed
hope
that
Macedonia
would
join
NATO
in
2006.
"The
visit
to
Paris
is
an
opportunity
to
ask
support
for
Macedonia's
integration
with
the
Euro-Atlantic
institutions,"
Crvenkovski
said.
He
pointed
out
that
the
security
situation
in
Macedonia
did
not
require
further
presence
of
foreign
peacekeeping
troops.
"The
EU
police
mission
"Proxima"
replaced
the
military
mission
"Concordia"
in
mid-December.
It
is
a
civic
mission,
aimed
at
assisting
the
police
reforms.
We
are
in
front
of
a
new
period
of
stabilization
of
ethnic
relations,
which
will
lead
to
economic
development,"
Crvenkovski
said.
