(MIC)
- NATO
is
encouraged
from
the
advancement
of
Macedonian
defense
reforms,
so
I
believe
the
Istanbul
Communiqué
will
be
positive”,
Robert
Simons,
chief
of
the
Alliance
delegation
for
inspection
of
Macedonia’s
preparations
for
membership,
said.
“We
are
encouraged
from
the
advancement
of
defense
reforms
under
the
leadership
of
the
Macedonian
Defense
Minister
and
we
hope
they
will
continue
with
the
same
pace
in
the
future”,
Simons,
deputy
assistant
to
the
General
Secretary
of
NATO
for
security
cooperation
and
partnership,
declared
Thursday
following
the
meeting
with
Defense
Minister
Vlado
Buckovski.
Simons
declared
that
serious
steps
for
defense
reforms
have
been
undertaken,
especially
with
the
promulgation
of
the
Strategic
Defense
Review,
which
foresees
new
tasks
for
a
new,
smaller
ARM.
Macedonia’s
cooperation
with
the
Balkan
countries
and
its
partnership
with
NATO
in
a
number
of
international
missions
have
been
indicated
as
arguments
that
go
in
favor
of
the
country
in
view
of
the
Istanbul
Summit.
“Macedonia
is
faced
with
a
serious
exam,
since
it
requested
to
realize
all
that
has
been
foreseen
in
the
second
phase
of
the
Strategic
Defense
Review”,
Minister
Buckovski
declared.
