Macedonian
Parliament
adopted
Thursday
a
Draft
Law
on
the
City
of
Skopje
with
67
votes
"for"
and
one
"against".
All
17
deputies
of
non-majority
communities
in
Macedonia
also
voted
for
the
law.
Skopje
will
be
composed
of
10
municipalities,
i.e.
new-established
local
unit
Butel
and
Saraj
plus
Kondovo
will
join
the
existing
municipalities
Aerodrom,
Gazi
Baba,
Gjorce
Petrov,
Karpos,
Kisela
Voda,
Centar,
Cair
and
Suto
Orizari.
The
debate
on
the
decentralization
laws
package
will
continue
on
September
2,
after
completion
of
MPs
summer
holiday.
The
Parliament
on
Wednesday
passed
the
Law
on
Territorial
Organization
of
the
Local
Self-Government.
Sixty-one
parliamentarians
voted
"for"
the
Law,
while
seven
voted
"against."
The
opposition
parliamentarians
did
not
attend
the
voting
act,
which
was
announced
by
the
last
discussant
on
the
text
on
the
Draft
Law,
VMRO-DPMNE
parliamentarian
Djordji
Trendafilov.
New
territorial
organisation
foresees
80
municipalities
out
of
which
70
on
state
level
and
10
within
the
frameworks
of
the
City
of
Skopje.
The
authority
will
be
transferred
from
central
to
local
level,
while
the
municipalities
will
take
over
the
competencies
for
their
economic,
cultural
and
social
development.
