Iraq:
3
Macedonians
taken
hostage
in
baghdad
Reality
Macedonia
(Sep
02,
2004) (RM)
- Iraqis
keep
three
men
from
Kumanovo
hostage
and
require
ransom
for
their
release.
Dalibor
Lazarevski,
Dragan
Markovikj
and
Zoran
Naskovski,
all
from
Kumanovo,
have
been
held
hostage
9
days
ago.
The
captives,
alongside
40
other
construction
workers
from
Macedonia,
worked
in
Baghdad
for
the
American
company
Soufan
Engineering.
Sergio
Taunga,
representative
of
the
U.S.
company,
should
arrive
today
from
Iraq
to
Kumanovo
to
meet
the
families
of
the
kidnapped
workers.
The
incident
took
place
on
August
23,
2004,
but
was
revealed
yesterday,
as
the
other
workers
were
told
to
keep
silent
in
order
not
to
disturb
the
families
of
the
kidnapped.
On
that
fateful
day,
their
employees
sent
five
workers
from
Kumanovo
to
an
American
base
located
about
50
km
from
their
position.
They
went
without
military
escort,
because
their
employees
told
them
that
it's
safe,
and
that
the
militant
groups
attack
only
soldiers.
After
several
kilometers
the
workers
were
stopped
by
a
vehicle
containing
an
armed
group.
The
kidnappers
kept
three
workers,
and
let
two
to
return
to
base
and
tell
what
happened.
The
armed
group
requires
ransom
for
the
release
of
the
kidnapped
from
the
American
company.
The
amount
remains
yet
unknown.
