Sofia
supports
accession
of
Macedonia,
Albania
and
Croatia
into
NATO

- Bulgaria
will
continue
supporting
NATO's
open-door
policy
for
the
accession
of
Macedonia,
Albania,
and
Croatia,
in
order
to
enhance
regional
stability,
Bulgarian
Defence
Minister
Nikolai
Svinarov
said
at
Friday's
press
conference
in
Sofia.
Svinarov
pledged
for
development
of
good
neighbourly
relations
in
the
region,
announcing
total
support
to
Macedonia's
and
Albania's
preparations
for
NATO
membership.
Macedonian
Defence
Minister
Vlado
Buckovski
said
that
he
was
an
optimist
on
region's
future,
adding
that
better
years
await
the
Balkans.
He
also
presented
Macedonian
regional
cooperation
initiatives.
Albanian
Defence
Minister
Pandeli
Majko
assessed
that
the
Sofia
meeting
was
"good
news"
for
the
region,
and
a
start
for
building
of
new
security
system
linked
with
NATO.
Majko
said
that
different
forms
of
cooperation
for
military-defence
issues
were
agreed
between
the
ministries
and
armies
of
Macedonia
and
Albania.
The
defence
ministers
decided
that
the
three
ministries
should
sign
an
agreement
on
cooperation
in
military
education,
industry,
technology
and
science.
